Heidelberg to Emphasize Corporate Social Responsibility

The value system operated by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG lays down the following principle: “We support the principle of sustainability and promote social and cultural life at our company’s sites.” How this “Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR) is exercised and managed in practice is now discussed in the company’s newly published Sustainability Report 2005/2006. For Heidelberg, the world market leader in sheetfed offset, the “complete sustainability system” covers the CSR cornerstones of economics, ecology, and social commitment.Corporate Social Responsibility also means boosting efficiency and thereby ensuring long-term job security.

“The commissioning of our new production site in Shanghai, China, is an important step in this direction,” says Bernhard Schreier, CEO of Heidelberg. Up to now - particularly in the lower market segments in China - little could be done to counter national competition. Now, production is tailored specifically to the needs of this market with locally developed products. “The advantage is we can now supply our customers directly, thereby reinforcing our strong position on the growing Asian market.”

Suprasetter 74 with Multi Cassette Loader at Ipex 2006 in Birmingham.
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has delivered its 500th Suprasetter to a customer in Portugal.

In total, the Suprasetter 74 and Suprasetter 105 models are now being used in 55 countries worldwide. The Suprasetter is a Heidelberg own development. The modular concept of the series enables users to adapt the machine precisely to their business model. It is possible to retrofit laser modules for higher plate throughput or to add Single or Multi Cassette Loaders on site at any time. All models can be integrated into the Heidelberg Prinect workflow based entirely on JDF.

The increasing demand for the Suprasetter A105 entry-level solution, which was introduced in April, mirrors the constantly high sales figures for the entire product family.

“The pleasing market success of the Suprasetter shows that Heidelberg is on the right track with its CtP strategy. The modular configurations, which grow in line with the print shops’ demands, offer our customers long-term investment security and a plate throughput adapted precisely to demand,” says Andreas Forer, Head of Imaging Systems at Heidelberg, explaining the success of the new series.
